Many people see work as just a way to survive, but the truth is, working and making money is God’s design. From the beginning, God intended for us to be productive, provide for our needs, and use our resources to bless others. Hard work isn’t just necessary, it’s spiritual.
Work Is Part of God’s Plan
God Himself is a worker. In Genesis 2:15, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Adam wasn’t given the garden to sit around, he was given responsibility.
Even Jesus worked as a carpenter before starting His ministry (Mark 6:3). Paul, one of the greatest apostles, also worked as a tentmaker (Acts 18:3). If work was good enough for them, it’s good enough for us!
Money Is Not Evil, Loving It Is
Some people misquote the Bible, saying money is evil. But money itself is not bad—it’s how we use it that matters. 1 Timothy 6:10 clarifies, “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.” Money is simply a tool. It can be used for good; supporting family, helping the poor, and funding God’s work.
Proverbs 13:11 reminds us, “Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.” This shows that making money through honest work is not only godly but also wise.
Laziness Leads to Lack
God warns against laziness. Proverbs 10:4 says, “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” If we want financial stability, we must work hard and be diligent in what we do.
Paul is even more direct in 2 Thessalonians 3:10: “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.” Work is God’s way of providing for us, and He expects us to take it seriously.
Work isn’t just about making ends meet—it’s an act of worship. Whatever you do, do it with excellence, honesty, and dedication, knowing that you’re serving God (Colossians 3:23). Embrace work, make money honestly, and use it to glorify Him!
